We’re all about our people here at ABL – our fantastic team works hard to make sure that we continue to give the best advice to clients about their commercial finance options.
Some of us have been working here for years, and others are just at the start of their careers, but each is a vital part of the ABL family and as such, we’re getting to know a little more about each and every one in our Q&A series.
In this edition, we chat to commercial finance consultant Luke Rodgers about why he loves being party of the ABL team.
Summarise your role in one paragraph:
As a finance consultant, I work on securing deals — from introduction to completion — across all finance types.
What’s the best part of your job?
At ABL, it’s a great team to work with, and the role is different every day, depending on what deals come through the door and what we’re working on. This makes coming into work enjoyable rather than a chore, which is really important to me.
What do you see as a ‘job well done’?
I consider it a success if a client gets the best possible solution for their finance needs. This does not necessarily have to be what they initially requested — sometimes other solutions are much more suitable for them.
What three words do you think best describe ABL?
Dedicated, enjoyable, and teamwork.
What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
Helpful, knowledgeable, and committed.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I always wanted to be a PE teacher until I studied physical education at sixth form college. I realised there is actually a lot of literacy involved, and I much prefer working with numbers – this has been my strong suit since a young age and hence why finance is a great career for me.
Where’s your favourite place to eat out – that we should really try?
There are two places that are my absolute favourite; Miller and Carter for the 12oz sirloin steak, and Gringos — situated under the viaduct in Huddersfield — which is a must-visit for anyone that enjoys Mexican food.
It’s the work Christmas party and you’re next up on karaoke – what’s your song?
Dancing in the Moonlight. It’s a classic and always gets the audience going, but maybe a Bieber song might be more fitting for me!
Where is the best place in the UK for a two-day getaway?
Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales — the walk along the waterfalls is just lovely. We stayed in a hot tub lodge and it rained almost all weekend, but we still had a fantastic time despite the typical British weather.
If we were to spend a day box set binging, what series would you recommend we watch?
Criminal Minds, Hawaii Five-O, Suits, and Power — all are brilliant, and I could happily spend an entire day watching any of them.
